R Gallery at Arlene's

SOUNDWAVES

January 31, 2025 - February 28, 2025

The R Gallery at Arlene’s is thrilled to present SOUNDWAVES, a juried group exhibition showcasing artwork inspired by music, curated by artist and juror Becky Zeh. The exhibition runs from January 31 through February 28, 2025, with an artist reception on Friday, February 7, from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

For centuries, music has influenced visual art, serving as a catalyst for creativity and emotion. Many artists credit music as an integral part of their creative process, using it to center themselves and access the “zone” where inspiration flows freely. SOUNDWAVES explores this deep connection by featuring works inspired by specific songs or musical compositions.

A unique aspect of the exhibition is its interactive component. Each submission required artists to provide the title of the song and the artist who created it. These song selections have been compiled into a public playlist accessible via a QR code in the gallery. Visitors are invited to listen to the playlist as they view the artwork, creating a fully immersive experience that blends sound and vision. This integration encourages viewers to reflect on how music and art inspire one another and perhaps even spark their own creativity.

Participating artists include Ottavia Huang, Itter Randazzo, Rae Noone, Matthew Paul, Ally Parrott, Steven Valentine, Lindsey Deberry, Barbara Lennox, Israel Singer, Maria DeAngelo, Teresa Ricci, Mitsu Ren, and Alice Raymond-Morse. Curator Becky Zeh, known for her expertise in creating dynamic and cohesive exhibitions, has brought together a collection of works that reflect the power of music to move us and shape our perceptions.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience SOUNDWAVES and discover how the magic of music transforms into captivating visual art. The R Gallery at Arlene’s is located inside Arlene’s Artist Materials at 57 Fuller Rd  Albany NY 12205. Admission is free, and the exhibit is open during regular store hours.
