The R Gallery at Arlene’s is thrilled to announce a call for art for our third annual Flat Files Program at Arlene’s. Artists are invited to submit artwork for consideration to be included in this exciting opportunity to show their work. The objective of the program is to promote selected artists’ two-dimensional work, develop a marketplace for people to add affordable, original artwork to their collections, and further grow our creative community.
This is a juried program, and we are thrilled to have Belinda Colón, Gallery Director & Curator at Spring Street Gallery in Saratoga Springs, NY, as our juror. The deadline to apply is Saturday, July 27, 2024 (5 PM).
About the Juror:
Belinda Colón is the Gallery Director and Curator at Spring Street Gallery in Saratoga Springs, NY. She excels at connecting artists with cultural and artistic resources, effectively bridging regional barriers. With a diverse background that spans retail management to executive support, Belinda brings a wealth of experience to her current role. She is adept at overseeing projects, ensuring efficiency, meeting deadlines, and being a reliable communicator and confidant to her colleagues. Committed to creating an environment that fosters artistic growth and stability, Belinda’s goal is to obtain a long-term position with growth opportunities.
Since February 2012, Belinda has served as the Founding Director of ON DECK Saratoga, a not-for-profit organization under the umbrella of the Saratoga Institute. Located at 110 Spring Street, Saratoga Springs, NY, ON DECK Saratoga promotes awareness and raises funds for community needs through arts-related events and activities. The organization aims to foster unique recreational and
cultural resources within the community by keeping an open conversation about regional issues.
From August 2017 to June 2022, Belinda worked as the Curator of Exhibitions and Public Art at The Arts Center of the Capital Region. In this role, she curated exhibitions and public art projects, playing a key role in enriching the cultural landscape of the Capital Region through her innovative and inclusive approach. Belinda’s passion for the arts and dedication to community engagement make her a valuable asset to any organization. Her extensive experience and commitment to excellence are evident in her work and her ongoing efforts to support and promote the arts.
Flat File Program at Arlene's Submission Guidelines:
Please read the guidelines carefully before you submit your application. Artwork that does not meet the guidelines will not be considered. In the event that accepted work does not meet the guidelines when received at R Gallery at Arlene’s, it will not be included in the Flat Files Program.

Artwork Submissions Criteria:

The 2024-25 cycle of the Flat File Program runs from Friday, October 4, 2024, through Saturday, August 30, 2025. Participating artists must agree to have their selected work available for the duration of the program. However, sold work can be replaced with approval from the R Gallery at Arlene's.

All artists wishing to participate in the Flat File program at Arlene’s must submit a complete application prior to the deadline of 5 pm (EST) on Saturday, July 27, 2024, and be selected by our juror. Any incomplete applications will not be considered.

All artwork must be original done by the applicant.

Artists must submit a separate PDF of their artist statement and bio.

Up to 5 pieces may be submitted. Image file size must be at least 300 dpi and labeled in the following format: FullName_Title_#.jpg or FullName_Title_#.png.

​Applicants must include an Exhibition List that corresponds to the images submitted. The list should consist of the artist's name, titles, mediums, sizes, year made, and prices (including 40% commission).

Applicants will be asked to provide links to their social media accounts if applicable.

All artwork submitted in the application must be the same work exhibited in the Flat Files Program at Arlene's. Artists are not permitted to change or replace pieces of the original submissions without prior permission from the R Gallery at Arlene’s.

Artwork cannot exceed 11”x14” with a maximum thickness of ¼".

All selected work must be unframed, and unmatted.

All selected works must be flat and prepackaged in an archival clear acetate sleeve appropriate to the size of the work.

A variety of media are welcome, including photography. All artwork must be durable as they will be handled often throughout the duration of the program. NOTE: Delicate works, like charcoal, pastel, or other loose dry media, will not be considered as they are at too high risk for damage.
Artwork Sales:

Artists will receive 60% of the sale with a 40% commission to the R Gallery at Arlene’s.
Visibility and Promotion:

Artwork selected for the R Gallery at Arlene's will be available to view and purchase in person at the R Gallery at Arlene's located inside Arlene's Artist Materials.

Artwork included in the program will be featured on the gallery's website, social media posts, and newsletters.
